About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage implementation of a comprehensive process risk reduction strategy for Finance
- Facilitate alignment of risk reduction initiatives with the organization’s risk management framework and business objectives
- Provide insights on process risk issues and mitigation strategies
- Support identification and prioritization of Finance process areas requiring risk reduction measures
- Execute process risk reduction and coordinate resolution of high-priority vertical and horizontal issues
- Assist with independent root cause analyses to identify process vulnerabilities and prevent operational risks
- Support Finance with control and process design and enhancements for proactive risk mitigation
- Document control design effectiveness and address thematic control gaps
- Support resolution and independently test high-risk issues for complete and effective resolution
- Monitor and track process changes to ensure risk reduction and alignment with risk appetite
- Document lessons learned and improve process risk reduction capabilities
- Share insights, best practices, and themes across the enterprise
- Collaborate with partners across business units, functional areas, and geographies
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ Years experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function)
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
- Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field
- Experience in financial services industry
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
- Preferred: experience identifying and prioritizing areas requiring risk reduction measures
- Preferred: experience executing process risk reduction and resolving high-priority issues
- Preferred: experience conducting root cause analyses focused on process vulnerabilities and operational risks
- Preferred: experience supporting resolution and independently testing high-risk issues
- Preferred: experience monitoring process changes and evaluating risk reduction
- Advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous
