About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Work closely with the broader Ventures Team and various teams across American Express to drive strategic portfolio management and investment insights
Evaluate portfolio company performance and shape portfolio construction
Support projects that inform decision-making
Prepare quarterly portfolio reporting materials for the broader Ventures team and senior management
Lead portfolio review and valuation processes, including impairment and mark-to-market
Assist with controllership, regulatory, and compliance deliverables
Drive portfolio construction and analytics, including portfolio models and scenario analysis
Conduct deep-dive analysis of portfolio company performance, market trends, and key value drivers
Incorporate external data and perspectives into portfolio insights and recommendations
Leverage technology to improve portfolio management efficiency and scalability
Maintain portfolio data systems and ensure data integrity across portfolio management tools
Track portfolio performance against benchmarks, objectives, and success metrics, providing actionable stakeholder insights
Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on analysis, modeling, and storytelling
Support ad-hoc cross-functional projects

Requirements

What you’ll need

The role is a multi-faceted one and requires both analytical and interpersonal skill sets
3-4 years previous experience must include financial or operational background (familiarity with financial statements)
Comfortable working with large data sets and synthesizing insights
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Financial, analytical and valuation skills
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders and to collaborate with others to drive results
Interest in the startup ecosystem
Knowledge of Cobalt PM Software a plus
Bachelor’s degree required
