About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Rate and underwrite credit exposures in the assigned region, industry, and business line
  • Conduct fundamental analysis of business, financial, industry, and country risk
  • Use internal and external rating model outputs to support assessments
  • Assess the need for credit extension, relationship profitability, and program structures

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, or other quantitative subjects/fields of study
  • Candidates with other majors who have a strong desire to work in credit analysis are also encouraged to apply
  • 0-5 years work experience in credit analysis or a related field
  • Understanding of fundamental financial analysis, including reviewing corporate financial statements to determine an obligor’s ability to honor credit obligations
  • Comfort with GAAP/IFRS accounting standards, corporate valuation, and forecasting
  • Comfort with public agency ratings and supporting analysis
  • Understanding of current macroeconomic trends and ability to provide recommendations to improve probability of default (PD) estimation based on the business cycle
  • Experience preparing company-specific and industry-wide credit memorandums
  • Familiarity with global markets
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
  • MBA or Masters in Finance, Economics, or other quantitative fields preferred
  • Relevant certifications such as CFA and FRM are a plus
