About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the Card Design portfolio and process end-to-end from intake through strategic alignment, design concepting and evaluation, production, launch, and post-launch
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Product Managers, fostering relationships, building trust, and managing day-to-day requests
  • Cultivate new and existing relationships to drive business where relevant
  • Understand product objectives, goals, and target audiences
  • Collaborate with Brand Design to develop actionable briefs translating product vision and strategy into Card Design
  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and audience insights to inform design strategy
  • Identify KPIs and establish measurement frameworks to evaluate success
  • Collaborate with strategy, creative, project management, production, and card issuance teams to execute physical and digital card design through launch
  • Provide guidance and support to direct reports and project management to ensure deliverables are met
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work environment and promote knowledge sharing and professional development
  • Stay current with design trends, financial services products, technologies, and best practices
  • Share industry insights and thought leadership, advising on emerging opportunities and future-proofing Card Design strategy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years in brand management or account management at a leading creative, design, or strategy agency
  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships and fostering long-term partnerships
  • Proven track record developing strategies and briefs that led to best-in-class creative work
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, draw insights, and make data-driven decisions
  • Ability to confidently evaluate brand/design work and provide clear perspectives rooted in insights and business needs
  • Strong understanding of product identity’s role in go-to-market planning
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong ability to translate strategies into presentations for senior leadership
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
