About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support execution plans for operational risk management within the business unit, including BU-specific guidelines and project plans
  • Track issues with KRI limits and risk appetite for CFR to ensure operational risks remain within agreed thresholds
  • Assist with implementation of portions of the operational risk framework to enable effective risk management and decision making
  • Help develop BU-specific procedures and additional standards, including escalation protocols
  • Facilitate understanding and use of risk governance framework basics across business units through regular communication
  • Aggregate reporting areas, approvals/exceptions, and support “change-the-function” activities
  • Administer specific training initiatives and career progression plans aligned with Operational Risk Management
  • Review processes and monitor integration of regulatory changes and updates into the Operational Risk framework and training materials
  • Support sharing insights, better practices, and themes across the enterprise

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2+ Years experience in operational risk management (e.g., within Risk and/or Internal Audit function)
  • Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
  • Project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in process governance, with an understanding of processes that align with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Risk Mgmt., or related field is preferred
  • Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc) or certifications are advantageous
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required; the company will not pursue visa sponsorship
