About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Drive reliability, resiliency, performance, and modernization of critical American Express distributed platforms
Assess and remediate complex availability, performance, and operational issues
Partner with engineering, product, infrastructure, and operations teams to design, build, automate, and support highly available enterprise platforms
Support complex enterprise applications, platforms, and operational tooling
Design, develop, prototype, code, test, and implement scalable software solutions using Java, Python, SQL, and related frameworks
Participate in change management reviews, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting
Design and implement automation solutions to improve resiliency, operational efficiency, and security
Contribute to runtime-system roadmaps and monitor KPIs, SLOs, MTTR, and MTBF
Diagnose and resolve production incidents, batch failures, outages, performance bottlenecks, and infrastructure issues
Support disaster recovery, high availability, workload management, capacity planning, and business continuity
Implement and support cloud/distributed architectures, modernization initiatives, API enablement, and enterprise integration
Develop and support API, MQ, Connect:Direct, event-driven, batch, and real-time data integration solutions
Automate deployments, monitoring, reporting, and remediation using Python, Bash, Ansible, Jenkins, and related technologies
Implement monitoring, observability, logging, and analytics solutions
Analyze operational trends and recommend platform optimizations
Apply CI/CD, DevOps, security, compliance, audit, and access-management practices
Ensure non-functional requirements for availability, scalability, performance, security, recoverability, and maintainability

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience
Work experience in software engineering, app support, infrastructure operations, or runtime engineering
Working understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and containerization technologies
Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools and incident management best practices
Solid programming and scripting skills, including Python
Knowledge of PowerShell and Python for automation
Experience in technology operations work
Hands-on experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as DB2, Redis, Postgres, and Couchbase
Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available
Must have 5+ years of distributed experience and knowledge
Experience supporting and optimizing enterprise platforms across distributed technologies including Java, Python, C, SQL, NodeJS, Bash, JS/HTML/CSS, Spanner, BigTable, BigQuery, Spring, GraphQL, OOP, MVC, algorithms, Git, Copilot, Jenkins, XLR, Elastic, Jira, AI, ML, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, REST API, gRPC, and Grafana
Knowledge of cloud platforms, AWS, GCP, or general cloud fundamentals
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Knowledge of enterprise security controls, compliance requirements, audit standards, access management, and cloud security principles
