About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise and mentor Data Engineers and cross-functional colleagues on tasks and projects
- Collaborate with delivery architects and engineers to design data tier solutions for enterprise platform objectives
- Collaborate with product teams to prioritize sprint features and make decisions about tools and methods
- Mentor junior and senior Data Engineers through development efforts
- Manage data architecture and database management, including prototypes, database structures, and application programming interfaces
- Transform logical data architectures into physical designs and provide database administration services
- Continuously improve database design and performance
- Debug database components and fix performance defects
- Ensure data replication, high availability, backup, and recovery processes
- Lead plans, strategies, best practices, and standards for data management, security, and processes
- Develop Big Data management strategies using advanced partitioning and indexing
- Align technology initiatives with product and business objectives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience; advanced degree preferred
- Knowledge of Big Data / NoSQL design and development with a variety of data stores
- Knowledge of database management system products and ecosystems, including storage formats, access algorithms, administration, replication, high availability, and encryption
- Knowledge of distributed systems, algorithms, and relational and non-relational databases
- Knowledge of XML/JSON, schema development/reuse, relational database management systems, and Open Source
- Data engineering and development experience or experience in a related job
- Experience with SQL and Python or another programming language such as Java
- Experience designing and developing across database management systems including HBase, Hive, GCP tools, NoSQL, BigTable, BigQuery, Spanner, IMS, DB2 zOS, Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Netezza
- Experience with NoSQL databases including MongoDB, Couchbase, Cassandra, and Redis
- Experience with data modeling tools such as ErStudio and ErWin
- Experience with Big Data performance tuning
- Experience with distributed systems, algorithms, and application development
- Experience supporting OLTP and/or OLAP systems
- Experience with software delivery methodologies including Agile, Scrum, Agile XP, Test-Driven Development, and Waterfall
- Experience with infrastructure design for performance and storage integration such as Nutanix
- Experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale data-processing solutions
- Experience with performance tuning, resiliency, high availability, data replication, and production troubleshooting
- Experience with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, code reviews, and production support
- Ability to collaborate with architects, engineers, product teams, and business stakeholders
- Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership on complex initiatives
- AI/GenAI experience is preferred, including Generative AI, LLM-based architectures, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, semantic/hybrid search, knowledge retrieval, LLM APIs or LangChain/LangGraph, AI evaluation, grounding, guardrails, observability, security, responsible AI, and unstructured/semi-structured data pipelines
