About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish the second line of defense framework for AEESA and AEPE legal entities
  • Identify, assess, measure, manage, and report financial risk for Spanish businesses
  • Participate in Risk Appetite Framework refresh and align legal-entity financial-risk metrics with enterprise metrics
  • Provide credible financial-risk challenge to legal-entity projects, strategies, and Change Advisory Forums
  • Analyze and communicate the legal entity’s financial-risk profile using aggregated data and reporting
  • Serve as primary financial-risk contact for regulators, Audit, International Legal Entity Leadership, and program-result requests
  • Represent financial risk on legal-entity committees and at board meetings as required
  • Own applicable financial-risk policies and frameworks
  • Influence enterprise financial-risk frameworks, policies, and programs and support their deployment
  • Advise the business on effective execution of financial-risk frameworks
  • Coordinate second-line testing and support legal-entity financial-risk testing
  • Ensure appropriate risk communication between legal entities and the enterprise
  • Support the Chief Risk Officer in oversight duties
  • Review risk issues and findings and oversee remediation
  • Lead second-line regulatory change management oversight for the applicable risk type
  • Develop legal-entity metrics dashboards, including Risk Appetite Framework metrics
  • Review, approve, and challenge applicable models
  • Lead a Financial Risk analyst

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in risk management or a similar role
  • Strong business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective
  • Experience interacting with regulators and familiarity with the Spanish and European regulatory landscape and requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Fluency in English, verbal and written
  • Proven ability to build, inspire, and coach a team
  • Excellent relationship and influence management skills
  • Strong integrity and ability to challenge and be challenged
  • Ability to identify issues, deliver and escalate key findings, and advise on solutions to correct issues or mitigate risks
  • Ability to communicate oversight findings to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in Spain is required; visa sponsorship will not be pursued
  • Advanced degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field is preferred
