About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support end-to-end process management for issues, operational risk events, and remediations, including capture, assessment, enhancement, and resolution
- Influence Business Unit teams that own and action issues, operational risk events, and remediations
- Track records' progress and validate resolution efficacy
- Communicate status updates to stakeholders and collaborate with Operational Risk Management teams
- Perform quality assurance on documentation and maintain records to ensure transparency and accountability
- Analyze issue and event trends to identify systemic risks or control weaknesses within Business Unit processes
- Provide guidance on control enhancements and perform sample testing to ensure complete and effective resolution
- Liaise with business unit partners and compliance colleagues to facilitate issue, event, and remediation resolution
- Embed accountability and integrate lessons learned into future Operational Risk Management practices
- Review and advise on detailed reports covering status, trends, and outcomes for senior management and governance committees
- Support sharing insights, better practices, and themes across the enterprise
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4+ years of experience in operational risk management, such as within Risk and/or Internal Audit
- Understanding of critical operational risk management lifecycle activities
- Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience in process governance aligned with policies, regulatory frameworks, and/or operational standards
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and evaluate risk scenarios effectively
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field is preferred
- Advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous
- Experience in scoping, prioritizing, and supporting remediation of operational and compliance-related issues, operational risk events, and remediations
- Experience managing investigations and conducting root cause analysis
- Experience overseeing remediation processes for operational risk issues and events
- Experience reviewing documentation and maintaining records of operational risk issues, events, and remediations
- Experience overseeing issue, event, and remediation resolution processes
- Experience in the financial services industry is preferred
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required; visa sponsorship is not available
