About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Data Steward in identifying data incidents, performing root-cause analysis, and driving remediation of audit and regulatory feedback
- Develop advanced knowledge of the Enterprise Data Management Operating Policy to support the Data Steward
- Monitor holistic platform data quality, including key reports
- Identify data risk with upstream data providers, downstream business partners, and technology teams
- Support establishment, maintenance, and testing of controls for managing data risk within the business unit
- Coordinate with Business Units and other Business Unit Data Offices to ensure system-level lineage is documented completely and accurately
- Partner with the Data Steward to develop and manage the data management roadmap
- Ensure third parties adhere to Enterprise Data Risk Management requirements
- Support creation of controls mitigating Data Quality, Fit for Purpose, and Data Steward risks as part of RCSA assessments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in business, analytics, information systems, computer science, engineering, or any other data-related field
- 5+ years of direct experience creating and executing formal data governance and/or data management programs
- Program management experience with partners across a diverse, global set of business units
- Record of understanding business challenges and strategies and connecting them to data and capabilities
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of current and upcoming data governance, data management, and data product techniques and trends
- Ability to design and complete solutions for sophisticated challenges
- Positive, collaborative leadership style with a colleague- and customer-first attitude
- Employment eligibility to work in the United States; American Express will not pursue visa sponsorship
- Master’s degree preferred
- CDMP or similar data management certification preferred
- Experience with Collibra Data Intelligence Platform, MANTA, or similar data governance tools preferred
- Experience in incident management and reporting, risk/data risk management, data breach management, data classification and handling, data quality monitoring and improvement, and data governance/compliance management preferred
- Working knowledge of SQL and Python or another programming language preferred
- Power BI/Tableau dashboard-building experience a plus
- Agile or SAFe project methodology experience preferred
