About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Complete an 18-month Software Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Participate in 20% classroom-based training and 80% on-the-job learning
  • Identify opportunities to adopt new technologies to solve existing needs and anticipate future challenges
  • Develop software applications as part of a Scrum team
  • Learn technical skills, write code, conduct code reviews, and perform testing
  • Partner with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Application Architects to conceptualize and build products and prioritize features
  • Perform design work such as user experience or graphic design
  • Participate in social activities, charity days, and projects with other apprentices, summer interns, and graduates
  • Work on projects with real and lasting business impact
  • Build technical expertise through networking and learning experiences

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A-Levels or equivalent, such as BTEC or T-Levels, with Grade 5 or above, preferably in STEM-related subjects
  • GCSE Maths and English with Grade 5 or above
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United Kingdom; visa sponsorship is not provided
  • Must meet strict U.K. Government apprenticeship eligibility criteria
  • Applicants who have studied Computer Science at Level 4 or achieved a Software Engineering Level 4 Diploma are not eligible
  • Creative, collaborative, and curious thinker with a desire to learn
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify opportunities for innovation and change
  • Passion for technology
  • Entry-level software development, design, or creative experience developing products or projects in an academic, professional, or personal setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Prior coding knowledge or experience in at least one programming language
