About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as liaison between patients and the practice by coordinating payments, assistance, patient balances, and financial-responsibility communication
  • Perform quality control for pre-certification and prior authorization
  • Monitor and coordinate with insurance companies on pre-certification, prior authorization, peer-to-peer reviews, and appeals
  • Review patient and physician schedules to establish financial responsibility
  • Review treatment plans, verify active insurance benefits, and communicate exceptions to providers
  • Generate service estimates and explain insurance benefits and financial responsibility to patients
  • Obtain patient information for assistance income guidelines
  • Identify aging balances and establish payment arrangements
  • Explain and manage waivers, treatment estimates, payment plans, and assistance applications
  • Communicate with providers, nursing staff, PSS staff, UM team, coworkers, and outside entities
  • Assist patients with paperwork for assistance and grant-funded programs
  • Coordinate patient assistance programs and financial aid counseling
  • Comply with federal and state laws and regulations concerning patient care, rights, safety, billing, and collections
  • Maintain neat records and safe, functional company equipment
  • Follow AON and departmental revenue-cycle policies and procedures
  • Perform other assigned duties and projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school Diploma or GED required
  • A minimum of two-years prior experience in the healthcare field, preferably in a clinical or business office setting required
  • Prior Healthcare customer service
  • Prior Medical terminology
  • Prior Medical insurance verification
  • Prior verifying pre-certification and/or prior authorization with medical insurance
  • Excellent proven verbal and communication skills
  • Proven insurance knowledge, including medical terminology, ICD9, ICD10 and CPT codes
  • Prior cash handling and monetary collection experience
  • Ability to calculate and collect patients’ responsibility and insurance co-pay/coinsurance
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment
  • Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness
  • Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and emotionally charged matters
  • Good command of the English language
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Ability to use multiple screens and navigate multiple applications
  • Monday to Friday 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; occasional weekend shifts based on location hours and operational needs
