About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist physicians with in-office medical procedures
  • Perform phlebotomy, blood draws, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing
  • Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation
  • Send outside laboratory work to appropriate facilities according to patients’ insurance plans
  • Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists
  • Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 depression screening
  • Place patients in exam rooms and prepare them for physicians
  • Receive and document laboratory reports in patient charts or the Onco/EMR system
  • Assist with bone marrow procedures, fine needle aspirations, paracentesis, and pelvic exams
  • Schedule outside testing, referrals, and hospital admissions as ordered
  • Thoroughly document testing and treatment in medical records and complete encounter forms or electronic superbills
  • Show physicians critical blood counts according to guidelines
  • Obtain scans and CDs for physician review
  • Maintain laboratory supply inventory and place purchasing orders
  • Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and contact central laboratory or instrument service providers
  • Perform EKG testing where applicable
  • Maintain laboratory compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies and perform compliance testing
  • Observe safety guidelines and maintain laboratory and equipment cleanliness
  • Comply with laws, regulations, and organizational policies while maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Assist in training new employees
  • Work at any AON location as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties assigned by management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School or GED
  • BLS required
  • Certifications/licenses as required by the state where employed
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
  • One year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office
  • Ability to perform venipuncture
  • Good command of the English language
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • EMR proficiency
  • Ability to travel less than 25%
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
  • Ability to work remotely effectively as required
