About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist physicians with in-office medical procedures
- Perform phlebotomy, laboratory blood work, testing, quality control, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance
- Perform blood draws and handle/process specimens according to laboratory procedures
- Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation
- Send outside laboratory work to appropriate facilities based on patient insurance plans
- Maintain test reports, quality-control logs, equipment records, checklists, and corrective-action documentation
- Obtain and document vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 screening
- Place patients in exam rooms and prepare them for physicians
- Receive and document laboratory reports in patient charts or the Onco/EMR system
- Assist with bone marrow procedures, fine needle aspirates, paracentesis, and pelvic exams
- Schedule outside testing, referrals, and hospital admissions as ordered
- Show physicians critical blood counts and prepare scans/CDs for review
- Maintain laboratory supply inventory and place purchasing orders
- Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and contact central laboratory or service companies
- Perform EKG testing where applicable
- Maintain laboratory compliance with state and federal regulations and perform compliance testing
- Observe safety guidelines and maintain laboratory and equipment cleanliness
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies
- Assist in training new employees
- Work at any AON location as needed
- Perform other job-related duties assigned by supervisors
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School or GED
- BLS required
- Certifications/licenses as required by the state where employed
- Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
- One-year experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician’s office with ability to perform venipuncture
- Good command of the English language
- Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- EMR proficiency
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
- Ability to work remotely effectively as required
- Travel under 25%
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM availability
