About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist with every step of the blood collection process
- Collaborate with the team to transport and set up equipment at collection sites
- Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors
- Follow safety procedures while collecting blood donations
- Personally connect with donors, listen to their stories, and explain the impact of donations
- Maintain detailed work to ensure collected blood meets goals and regulatory requirements and is safe for transfusion
- May drive Red Cross vehicles
- Set up and tear down equipment at donation sites
- Work as part of a team at mobile blood drives
- Work a variable schedule that may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
- Overnight travel may be required in some locations
- Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required
- A current, valid driver's license with a good driving record is required
- DOT certification is required; must pass applicable DOT physical and related requirements and be able to possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one-year duration
- Ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs
- Good manual dexterity
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Ability to adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes
- Minimum height of 60 inches may be required to safely operate Red Cross vehicles
- Basic computer skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience is a competitive edge
- Prior leadership experience is a competitive edge
