About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead regionwide mass care planning
  • Ensure essential disaster services, including feeding, sheltering, household pets, emergency supply distribution, and reunification, are available and delivered seamlessly
  • Work with volunteers to ensure communities are prepared to respond to disasters
  • Deploy to disaster relief operations outside the region at least once a year
  • Lead and support diverse volunteer teams implementing disaster cycle services programming
  • Implement disaster cycle services or regional functional activities
  • Develop and support disaster volunteers as the primary workforce
  • Cultivate Disaster Leadership Volunteers and volunteer partners
  • Prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners before, during, and after disasters
  • Collaborate with internal employees and volunteers in a matrix management environment
  • Serve as the Red Cross disaster subject matter expert within the assigned geographic area
  • Build partnerships with organizations and leaders supporting frontline communities and resiliency
  • Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience with building, mobilizing, leading and developing volunteer teams to execute a social services program or service
  • Current valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills
  • Experience collaborating with diverse groups and individuals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to work outside regular duty hours, including nights and weekends
  • Must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment
  • Must be able to report to the Wasilla or Anchorage chapter office twice per week
  • Regional travel of 30–40%
  • Experience working in diverse communities and building relationships with community partners, businesses, and government stakeholders across urban and rural environments preferred
  • Experience in emergency management or disaster services is a plus
