About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the successful implementation of The Literate Brain professional learning initiative for the Department of War Education Activity
- Own the program strategy and implementation plan, translating contract requirements into milestones, roles, deliverables, evaluation measures, and success criteria
- Lead the design of Science of Reading and Science of Writing professional learning aligned to the DoWEA scope of work
- Oversee professional development delivery across live, virtual, train-the-trainer, regional, district, headquarters, and asynchronous experiences
- Ensure instructional parity, grade-band relevance, and effective PK–5 classroom application
- Partner with DoWEA stakeholders and coordinate internal contributors
- Track deliverables, resolve risks and issues, and escalate matters affecting scope, quality, schedule, or customer outcomes
- Coordinate digital resource deployment, system compatibility, accessibility, data protection, and ongoing support requirements
- Lead evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement
- Create evaluation instruments and annual reports
- Facilitate annual senior-leadership briefings
- Travel domestically and internationally to support DoWEA regional and headquarters meetings
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in literacy, education, professional learning, curriculum and instruction, or a related field
- Deep knowledge of the Science of Reading, Science of Writing, Structured Literacy, cognitive science, and pedagogical content knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to apply literacy and education knowledge to PK–5 instruction
- An advanced degree in literacy, reading, curriculum and instruction, education, or a related field, or nationally recognized expertise in literacy or education
- Demonstrated professional learning design and facilitation expertise
- Experience designing, facilitating, and/or overseeing evidence-based learning experiences for elementary educators, instructional coaches, school leaders, or comparable audiences
- Meticulous attention to detail and a track record of producing accurate, polished deliverables
- Experience managing complex workstreams with minimal errors
- Successful oversight of at least one elementary-school professional learning or coaching program implementation in a school system
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally; current passport required
- Ability to work effectively across U.S. and international time zones
- Ability to satisfy customer-required background, security, privacy-training, and installation-access requirements
- U.S. citizenship may be required for work involving DoWEA personally identifiable information or controlled unclassified information
- Advanced specialized training in the Science of Reading and Writing preferred
- Experience with learning management systems and technical fluency in digital learning implementation, platform integrations, accessibility, and user access preferred
