About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership and subject matter expertise for the CDL program
- Participate in curriculum development, revision, and implementation
- Provide product knowledge training to Account Management and Career Services personnel
- Engage with potential students and participate in new student orientation
- Hire, assign, orient, develop, evaluate, and recognize Driver Trainers
- Convene regular faculty meetings and document meetings
- Monitor and support students throughout the program
- Provide academic advising, tutoring referrals, outside-resource referrals, and retention support
- Maintain regular contact with students and respond to questions and concerns
- Contact absent or unreachable students and identify barriers to success
- Maintain records of student interactions and correspondence
- Oversee curriculum, instructional materials, equipment, facilities, and course scheduling
- Assist with faculty recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, supervision, mentoring, and development
- Ensure Driver Trainers meet administrative and classroom delivery requirements
- Maintain faculty files, transcripts, professional development records, observations, and performance reviews
- Observe classes and coach Driver Trainers on instructional presentation and classroom management
- Conduct faculty performance appraisals and recommend improvement and development activities
- Provide departmental product knowledge training and assist with student recruitment
- Maintain knowledge of federal/state regulations and accreditation standards
- Participate in government and accreditation reporting
- Analyze student questionnaire and population data to identify at-risk students and improve program performance
- Maintain office hours and collaborate on interdepartmental activities
- Resolve personnel issues among Driver Trainers
- Assist with program budget planning
- Perform all duties of a full-time Driver Trainer
- Define roles and objectives, monitor performance, provide feedback, and develop Driver Trainers
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or GED
- Industry certification in the field of instruction if required by industry, or demonstrated knowledge equivalent to the certification
- 3 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment
- 5 years of industry experience in the field of instruction
- 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role
- Ability to qualify as a CDL Driver/Driver Trainer
- Knowledge of faculty development, including requirements, delivery methods, and reporting
- Motivation, dedication, professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm for teaching
- Ability to show sensitivity to the needs and requirements of adult learners
- Ability and desire to embrace the school’s mission
- Ability to inspire students to the highest level of achievement in preparation for meeting employer expectations
- Knowledge of industry standards and requirements within the field of instruction
- Knowledge of and ability to facilitate learning on course content within the field of instruction
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and database programs; CampusVue preferred
- Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships for accomplishing work objectives

- Ability to crank trailer landing gear, handle training and safety equipment, and potentially assist with loading/unloading
- Ability to sustain physical activity and remain alert during extended driving and instructional periods
- Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and DOT physical qualifications required to hold a CDL
- Associate’s Degree or higher, documented specialized competency, or equivalent work experience in the field of instruction (preferred)
- Preferred: 5 years of academic instruction, 10 years of industry experience, 3 years of management/supervisory experience, previous academic program director experience, student guidance experience, and working knowledge of government education regulations
