About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide leadership for the CDL Program
  • Serve as subject matter expert and participate in curriculum development, revision, and implementation
  • Provide product knowledge training to Account Management and Career Services personnel
  • Engage with potential students and participate in new student orientation
  • Hire, assign, orient, develop, evaluate, and recognize Driver Trainers
  • Convene regular faculty meetings and document meetings
  • Monitor and support students within the program
  • Provide academic advising, tutoring arrangements, referrals, and retention support
  • Maintain regular student contact and records of interactions
  • Contact students with absences or barriers to academic progress
  • Oversee curriculum, instructional materials, equipment, facilities, and scheduling input
  • Recruit, interview, hire, supervise, mentor, observe, coach, and evaluate Driver Trainers
  • Ensure faculty files, transcripts, professional development, observations, and performance reviews are complete
  • Conduct weekly day and evening faculty meetings
  • Support faculty professional development and maintain professional organization participation
  • Maintain knowledge of regulations and accreditation standards
  • Participate in government and accreditation reports
  • Analyze student questionnaires and program performance data
  • Maintain regular office hours and coordinate interdepartmental activities
  • Resolve personnel issues among Driver Trainers
  • Assist with program budgetary planning
  • Perform all duties of a full-time Driver Trainer
  • Define roles and objectives, monitor performance, provide feedback, and develop others

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Industry certification in the field of instruction if required by industry, or demonstrated knowledge equivalent to the certification
  • Class A CDL license with at least 2 years driving experience
  • 5 years of industry experience in the field of instruction
  • 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role
  • Knowledge regarding faculty development, including requirements, delivery methods, and reporting
  • Ability to show sensitivity to the needs and requirements of adult learners
  • Knowledge of industry standards and requirements within the field of instruction
  • Knowledge of and ability to facilitate learning on course content within the field of instruction
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal relationship skills necessary for positive interactions with students, alumni, faculty, and employers
  • Excellent creative and problem solving skills
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to present ideas effectively to individuals or groups in a formal setting
  • Management skills in planning, organizing, controlling and evaluating programs and policies
  • Knowledge of federal FMCSA and state Department of Motor Vehicle standards
  • Must possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and meet DOT physical qualifications required to hold a CDL
  • Ability to frequently climb in/out of the cab, bend, squat, kneel, twist and reach
  • Ability to crank trailer landing gear, handle training and safety equipment, and potentially assist with loading/unloading
  • Ability to sustain physical activity and remain alert during extended driving and instructional periods
  • Ability to demonstrate coupling/uncoupling trailers, inspections, and large-vehicle maneuvering
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
