About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise for the CDL Program
  • Participate in curriculum development, revision, implementation, and continuous improvement
  • Provide product knowledge training to the Account Management group
  • Engage with potential students and participate in new student orientation
  • Hire, assign, orient, develop, evaluate, and recognize Driver Trainers
  • Convene and attend regular faculty meetings and in-service programs
  • Monitor and support students, including academic advising, counseling, tutoring referrals, and retention initiatives
  • Maintain regular contact with students and document interactions and correspondence
  • Contact students with absences or barriers to academic progress
  • Analyze student population and cohort performance data to identify at-risk students
  • Serve as a curriculum subject matter expert and provide feedback on instructional materials
  • Provide weekly cohort performance recaps
  • Orient, monitor, supervise, mentor, and assist Driver Trainers
  • Lead and support staff and supervise instructional and program needs
  • Maintain knowledge of federal and state regulations and accreditation standards
  • Participate in government and accreditation reports and ensure timely, accurate submission
  • Evaluate student questionnaire data and conduct faculty conferences with recommendations for improvement
  • Collaborate with peers and associates on interdepartmental activities
  • Perform all duties of a full-time Driver Trainer

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • CDL License with at least 2 years driving experience
  • 5 years of industry experience in the field of instruction
  • 2 years of experience in a management or supervisory role
  • Knowledge regarding faculty development, including requirements, delivery methods, and reporting
  • Knowledge of industry standards and requirements within the field of instruction
  • Knowledge of and ability to facilitate learning on course content within the field of instruction
  • Knowledge of federal FMCSA and state Department of Motor Vehicle standards
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to present ideas effectively to individuals or groups in a formal setting
  • Management skills in planning, organizing, controlling and evaluating programs and policies
  • Associate’s Degree or higher, documented specialized competency within the field of instruction, or equivalent work experience in the field of instruction (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience in academic instruction in a post-secondary environment (preferred)
  • 10 years of experience in the field of instruction (preferred)
  • 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role (preferred)
  • Valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate and DOT physical qualifications required to hold a CDL
  • Ability to frequently climb in/out of the cab, bend, squat, kneel, twist and reach
  • Ability to crank trailer landing gear, handle training and safety equipment, and potentially assist with loading/unloading
  • Ability to sustain physical activity and remain alert during extended driving and instructional periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow
  • Motivation, dedication, professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm for teaching
  • Ability to develop and use collaborative relationships
  • Interpersonal relationship skills necessary for positive interactions with students, alumni, faculty, and employers
