About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Ensure fulfillment of HSE requirements at construction sites in compliance with company standards, customer requirements and government regulations
- Support the Site Manager with HSE management and implementation of safety instructions for workers and partners
- Liaise with the customer HSE organization and provincial/state regulatory agencies
- Prepare weekly and monthly HSE statistics reports
- Implement and enforce the Health & Safety Plan, risk assessments and EM 385-1-1 as applicable
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety requirements
- Use and maintain OSHA Form 300 and post Form 300A on the site safety bulletin board in the US
- Assist with implementation and updates of the health, safety and environmental plan
- Identify risks and define control measures through safe work procedures and Job Safety Analysis
- Conduct and record regular safety checks and inspections
- Assist with toolbox talks and coordinate safety committees as applicable
- Record and investigate accidents and incidents; perform root cause analysis
- Establish and maintain a corrective action tracking system
- Coordinate health, safety and environmental aspects of site activities
- Maintain hazardous chemical lists and Safety Data Sheets
- Provide introduction and site-specific HSE training; coordinate required safety training
- Coordinate First Aid, rescue, First Aid responders and Fire Protection programs as applicable
- Propose immediate corrections for HSE deficiencies and verify their effectiveness
- Maintain OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 at the site
- Support internal audits and coordinate external audits
- Coordinate with Workers Compensation/Insurance Broker as required
- Collaborate with the HSE Advisor on updates to the HSE Management System
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience working on Hydro powerplant construction project or USACE construction projects
- At least 5 years' experience as a Safety Supervisor with updated continued education per the EM 385-1-1
- Experience with government projects
- Completion of the 30-hour OSHA course
- Additional 40 hours of training beyond the 30-hour OSHA course
- 8 hours of continued education per year for a total of 5 years
- OSHA 510, 500 and BCSP CHST, ASP or CSP desired but not mandatory
- Minimum 3 years of experience in HSE management on a construction site or heavy industries
- University degree in Health and Safety or equivalent
- Knowledge of Provincial/State Construction Safety legislation
- Experience in dealing with unionized environment
- Experience working on construction sites; hydro power plant experience is an asset
- Strong communication skills, spoken and written, at all levels of the organization
- Leadership skills and ability to be a team player following Company common goals
- Proven auditor and trainer skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills, root cause analysis expertise, sound judgment, initiative and creativity
- Willingness to travel and flexibility with work schedule
