Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and support product development teams in Blackboard's next evolution
Build a new operating system for the company and refresh work processes for a 2026 company
Optimize tools and processes to drive productivity and leverage AI
Drive efficiency and automation across software engineering
Develop close working relationships with Product Management and Design, Security, and Cloud Operations
Make Product Development systems decisions collaboratively with dependent business leaders
Build, develop, and restructure a global software engineering organization
Lead organizational role changes honestly and with care
Support premium and point solutions, including the Ally solution
Ensure corporate systems meet ISO 27001, SOC 2, FedRAMP, and GovRAMP obligations
Work with Security and auditors to produce evidence as needed
Travel occasionally

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of related experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience
Experience running a large software engineering team at scale and transforming its effectiveness
Experience leveraging artificial intelligence and automation to build and deploy software on a global scale
Cost optimization experience, including reducing cloud spend through frugal architecture principles and/or identifying savings opportunities
Experience leading through structural change while maintaining trust and retaining high-performing employees
Experience delivering difficult news and managing organizational change
Experience publishing service levels and using continuous feedback to drive improvement
Global operating experience across time zones, works councils, regional employment norms, and data residency requirements
Deep experience in EdTech, SaaS, or technology-enabled services
Track record leading organizations through complex transformation initiatives
AI and automation program leadership experience highly valued
Must be legally authorized to work in the country where the role is based at the time of hire and maintain that authorization throughout employment
