About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the Water/Wastewater practice with technical work on water supply, drinking water, and wastewater projects throughout New England
  • Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing large and small projects
  • Work within prescribed budgets and monitor performance weekly
  • Develop and negotiate scopes, fees, and schedules with sub-consultants under Project Manager guidance
  • Develop technical solutions for complex projects and assist with all aspects of project scope execution
  • Report project progress, identify out-of-scope work, and help maintain schedules and budgets
  • Serve as Technical Lead, coordinating technical work among design disciplines and subcontractors/subconsultants
  • Supervise and train less experienced staff and provide input for annual reviews
  • Develop technical approaches, schedules, and fee estimates for proposals
  • Maintain quality control by reviewing designs, calculations, assumptions, and bases of design
  • Coordinate and attend client meetings and public hearings; prepare and deliver client presentations
  • Lead construction administration tasks including progress meetings, submittal reviews, agendas and minutes, construction reports, payment applications, RFIs, change orders, coordination with Resident Project Representatives, project closeout, and schedule tracking
  • Advise the Project Manager on contract terms, professional liability matters, and potential concerns
  • Participate in professional associations and conferences; present or author technical papers
  • Identify potential claims through documentation and reporting
  • May manage a direct report, including workload management, time and expense approval, and career path development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of drinking water, water supply or wastewater systems design experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer, or working towards licensure within one year, in a State(s) where Apex does work or ability to obtain same by reciprocity
  • Proven writing skills for technical memoranda, reports, proposals, contracts, and subcontract scopes of work
  • Supervisory skills and willingness to train junior staff
  • Experience coordinating the efforts of other disciplines and outside consultants
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Candidates must have a civil engineering background related to drinking water and wastewater systems design; IT, software, or technology backgrounds will not be considered
