About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate projects within the Production Technical Department
  • Lead and/or support development of project scopes, user requirements, design bases, project justifications and expenditure authorizations
  • Prepare cost estimates, feasibility studies and execution schedules
  • Deliver assigned project scopes within budget and schedule
  • Coordinate detailed drawings and specifications using AutoCAD and Apotex standards
  • Recommend selection, negotiation, management and evaluation of external suppliers and contractors
  • Research facility and equipment problems and recommend improvement or redevelopment solutions
  • Identify new product requirements with Launch, R&D and Operations and implement engineering solutions for manufacturing readiness
  • Support Production, Maintenance and Complaints/Investigations with troubleshooting, vendor liaison, project designs and CAPA implementation
  • Develop SOPs, preventive-maintenance tasks, spare-parts and calibration requirements
  • Coordinate consultants and contractors while maintaining technical, regulatory, safety, cost and schedule standards
  • Obtain permits and certifications and schedule inspections and pre-start safety reviews
  • Review engineering specifications and test plans for user requirements, business needs, regulatory standards and Good Engineering Practices
  • Support commissioning, qualification and training plans for system start-up
  • Lead and/or support FAT, SAT, commissioning, validation and change-control activities
  • Support internal, customer and regulatory inspections
  • Assist the Manager in meeting department goals and objectives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A post-secondary degree in Engineering
  • Minimum of three to five years’ experience in plant technical support and/or design and construction co-ordination
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, food, or other chemical processing industry
  • Ideally, exposure to compounding, filling/packaging and cleaning/sterilization processes for liquid dose products
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, Visio and SAP is required
  • Experience supporting Investigations/CAPA and Engineering Change Controls in TrackWise is preferred
  • Experience in Project Management and use of MS Project is preferred
  • Experience in design utilizing AutoCAD is preferred
  • Certified packaging professional, PMP or P.Eng. designation is an asset
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical packaging components, automation systems, HVAC and utilities preferred
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
