About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Contribute to system design and architecture decisions, balancing speed, scalability, maintainability, and security
  • Own services from design through production, ensuring observability and compliance with agreed Service Level Objectives
  • Deliver improvements in platform reliability, performance, and efficiency
  • Improve infrastructure and operations automation to reduce toil and increase team velocity
  • Apply coding standards and write well-tested, reusable code
  • Engage with the architecture community and share best practices
  • Enable AI agents to act as force multipliers within the codebase
  • Ensure services meet production-readiness standards
  • Provide technical estimates and feasibility input
  • Deliver work iteratively, contribute to release planning, and participate in post-release reviews
  • Raise dependencies within planned work
  • Support and mentor engineers through code review, pairing, and constructive feedback
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response
  • Lead investigations, contribute to post-mortems, and drive follow-up improvements
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, the Tech Lead, and other engineers
  • Align technical delivery with product strategy and communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Considerable professional experience in Platform Engineering on complex, scalable systems
  • Strong hands-on expertise with AWS and distributed cloud architectures
  • Experience operating production platforms serving at least 6,000 requests per second
  • Deep understanding of enterprise deployment and maintenance processes, such as blue-green deployments
  • Proficiency with Terraform and configuration management tools
  • Strong skills in Python, Go, or a similar language for automation and tooling
  • Significant experience with Java, C++/#, PHP, or another language, preferably in a sizable object-oriented codebase
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as DataDog or Prometheus
  • Experience with incident and problem management practices
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and resilience patterns
  • Hands-on experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and ECS
  • Practical experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments
  • Experience supporting and mentoring engineers through code review, pairing, and feedback
  • Experience using agentic AI, or interest in increasing productivity with new tooling including agentic AI
  • Bonus: experience with chaos engineering and reliability testing
  • Bonus: knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks
  • Bonus: contributions to open-source projects or the software community
  • Bonus: experience running ECS at scale
  • Bonus: experience working with agentic and generative AI to increase productivity
