About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead end-to-end administration of leaves across Canada and the US, including disability, maternity and parental, FMLA, state and local paid family medical, ADA, and other paid or unpaid leaves
  • Interpret legislative changes, assess operational impact, and recommend updates to leave programs, policies, and processes
  • Coordinate triaging of leave requests with People and Culture Business Partners, Health and Safety, and people leaders
  • Own employer statements and claim submission forms as needed
  • Ensure timely updates to employee data and leave statuses in HRIS and payroll systems
  • Act as escalation point for complex and sensitive leaves with carriers
  • Coordinate return-to-work processes, accommodation letters, and gradual schedules
  • Calculate and report disability payments to payroll for weekly, biweekly, and semi-monthly pay schedules
  • Monitor leave procedures and policies to identify gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Report on leave trends to identify risks, cost drivers, and workforce planning needs
  • Serve as subject matter expert and centralized resource for People and Culture, employees, and people leaders
  • Provide guidance on sensitive and complex cases
  • Develop and deliver education, training, and communication materials related to leave programs
  • Support global group benefits, savings, and purchase program initiatives and enhancements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in human resources, leave and absence management or disability programs, ideally with exposure to US state programs and regulations
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements and coordination of state and provincial leaves with government and employer-sponsored programs
  • Proven ability to work independently and own end-to-end program oversight and initiatives
  • Ability to work independently as well as be part of the larger team; flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in managing both internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Mindset of continuous improvement and ability to implement process improvements
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to establish collaborative working relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Ability to effectively balance autonomy and collaboration
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada
