About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Shape and evolve Arden University’s data platform
  • Improve student experience, student outcomes, and operational efficiency
  • Develop and optimise core data infrastructure, including the data lake and medallion architecture
  • Ensure the data platform is robust, scalable, and reliable
  • Provide guidance on modern cloud data technologies, including Power BI and Microsoft Fabric
  • Support development of the data platform strategy using modern engineering patterns and technologies
  • Identify opportunities for data platform enhancements to deliver meaningful business impact
  • Support and coach the wider data team
  • Promote best practices and continuous platform improvement
  • Work hands-on across platform engineering, architecture, and continuous improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Familiarity with big data technologies and ecosystems such as Microsoft Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka
  • Experience with Python, R, or SQL
  • Strong understanding of database design and theory, including SQL and NoSQL technologies
  • Knowledge of data engineering principles, including ETL design and data lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with data pipeline and integration tools such as Data Factory and Airflow
  • Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, and version control such as Git
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience delivering business value through data and analytics
  • Formal Data & Analytics certifications are desirable, including Certified Analytics Professional, Azure Data Engineer, or Data Scientist Associate
  • Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum is desirable
  • Experience across data warehousing, BI, data governance, data architecture, or data strategy is desirable
  • Knowledge of lakehouse architecture and modern data platform patterns is desirable
  • Experience in the Higher Education sector is desirable
  • Understanding of data science tools and techniques within Azure is desirable
  • Awareness of data governance, security, and regulatory requirements such as GDPR is desirable
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK or be eligible for an alternative visa route; the employer cannot sponsor Skilled Worker visas for this role
