About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide immigration advising and support services for approximately 16,000 international students at ASU
  • Interpret immigration regulations for F-1 nonimmigrant status
  • Advise F-1 students on Optional Practical Training and serve as a Designated School Official (DSO)
  • Monitor regulatory updates and implement changes to operations, forms, and advisement
  • Maintain accurate student immigration files, Sunapsis records, and SEVIS records
  • Interface with DHS agencies including CIS, ICE, and CBP
  • Work with other DSOs to ensure consistent policies and procedures
  • Respond to immigration-related communications from academic units, students, government agencies, and the community
  • Develop workshops and information sessions on international issues for students, faculty, and staff
  • Coordinate assessment efforts in the immigration area of the ISSC
  • Assist the Student Advising team with special projects as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate's degree and one (1) year of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or training providing comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident for certification as a Designated School Official (DSO)
  • Background in international education or previous DSO experience preferred
  • Skills in organizing and prioritizing work activities
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of immigration regulations for F-1 nonimmigrant status
  • Ability to advise on Optional Practical Training
  • Employment is contingent upon successful background and fingerprint checks
