About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Arrange, track, and communicate transportation status for customer goods across pickup and delivery operations
- Assign and tender shipments to preferred carriers using the TMS to optimize service, capacity, and cost
- Coordinate dedicated and continuous move tenders
- Manually tender loads by contacting carriers to secure capacity when needed
- Monitor shipments for on-time pickup and follow up to secure service results
- Use 24TRACC, the Loads at Risk application, and carrier websites to identify late loads
- Coordinate first-response activity for pickup and in-transit issues
- Escalate issues to the appropriate manager, Senior Supply Chain Coordinator, or Transportation Analyst
- Assist carriers with loading, pickup appointments, and issue resolution
- Coordinate carrier or supplier date-change requests
- Support shipping and receiving locations with carrier issues, trailer pool coordination, rush shipments, and problem resolution
- Document supplier and carrier issues and correspondence in the TMS
- Manage MercuryGate TMS notifications and network email communication through Microsoft Outlook
- Manually enter orders into the TMS when applicable
- Manage pending orders and carrier rate reviews for assigned regions and suppliers
- Analyze shipping processes and support productivity improvement implementation plans
- Develop and manage supplier and carrier relationships
- Analyze carrier routing guides and capacity utilization to optimize cost savings and service levels
- Manage the Transportation Planning Tool to consolidate LTL shipments into truckloads
- Coordinate return disposition of refused or returned goods
- Maintain communication and service with shipping locations and carriers by phone and email
- Learn and follow operational SOPs and the Business Continuity Plan
- Hand off issues requiring placement onto a Watch List
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum: 1-5 years experience in customer service or transportation – operations experience preferred or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Supply Chain or Logistics preferred
- Customer Service or Transportation experience with one or more of the following modes: LTL, Intermodal, temp controlled, and dry truckload transportation preferred
- General understanding of business and transportation terms and concepts
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel required; Access and TMS applications preferred
- Analytical and problem solving ability
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal & written) with internal/external clients
- Ability to work within the weekend shift rotation and rotate into alternative shifts during the week, as needed
- Ability to perform prolonged sitting and computer/phone usage in an office environment
