About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Arrange, track, and communicate transportation status for customer goods across pickup and delivery operations
  • Assign and tender shipments to preferred carriers using the Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Coordinate dedicated and continuous move tenders
  • Manually tender loads and secure carrier capacity when TMS carrier selection is unsuccessful
  • Monitor shipments for on-time pickup and proactively resolve or escalate service issues
  • Use 24TRACC, Loads at Risk, carrier websites, and TMS tools to identify late shipments
  • Coordinate first-response activity for pickup and in-transit issues
  • Assist carriers with loading and pickup appointment issues
  • Coordinate carrier and supplier date-change requests
  • Support shipping and receiving locations with carrier issues, trailer pool coordination, rush shipments, and problem resolution
  • Document supplier and carrier issues and correspondence in TMS load notes
  • Manage MercuryGate TMS notifications and Microsoft Outlook communications
  • Manually enter orders into TMS and manage pending orders for assigned regions and suppliers
  • Handle carrier rate reviews as needed
  • Analyze shipping processes and support productivity improvement initiatives
  • Develop and manage supplier and carrier relationships
  • Analyze routing guides and carrier capacity utilization to optimize cost savings and service levels
  • Manage the Transportation Planning Tool (TPT) to consolidate LTL shipments into truckloads
  • Coordinate return disposition of refused or returned goods
  • Maintain communication and service with shipping locations and carriers by phone and email
  • Follow operational SOPs and the Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
  • Escalate issues requiring placement onto a Watch List

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 1-5 years of experience in customer service or transportation; operations experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Supply Chain or Logistics preferred
  • Customer service or transportation experience with one or more of: LTL, Intermodal, temperature-controlled, or dry truckload transportation preferred
  • General understanding of business and transportation terms and concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel required
  • Access and TMS applications preferred
  • Analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with internal and external clients
  • Ability to work weekend shift rotation and alternative weekday shifts as needed
  • Ability to perform prolonged sitting and computer/phone usage
