About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain relationships with building owners, operators, developers, consultants, contractors, and other key stakeholders
  • Position Armstrong products as the Basis of Design for major projects across the North of the UK
  • Engage customers to understand technical and commercial requirements, uncover opportunities, and influence bid criteria at early design stages
  • Target commercial design-build, district energy, healthcare, industrial, and data centre markets
  • Develop tailored solution packages with internal technical and commercial teams
  • Leverage government-funded infrastructure programmes, sustainability initiatives, and energy-efficiency mandates
  • Represent Armstrong at industry exhibitions, networking events, CPDs, and professional forums
  • Develop long-term relationships with national clients and provide technical and commercial support throughout project lifecycles
  • Gather, analyse, and communicate customer insights to influence national strategy
  • Promote Armstrong’s portfolio of pumps, HVAC solutions, digital technologies, and energy-efficient systems
  • Develop territory plans with KPIs, growth objectives, and competitive strategies to achieve sales targets
  • Apply technical knowledge and consultative selling to secure specifications, close opportunities, and expand market share
  • Maintain CRM records of customer interactions, opportunities, and pipeline activities
  • Monitor and report on market trends, competitor activity, and regional project opportunities
  • Produce structured bi-weekly activity reports
  • Collaborate with engineering, customer service, marketing, and senior management teams
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects supporting national presence and strategic growth
  • Participate in trade associations and industry bodies to maintain professional knowledge and industry influence

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • University degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical sales, business development, and industry experience
  • Substantial experience in technical mechanical specification sales, application engineering, business development, or related HVAC, hydronic, pumping, heat network, district energy, or data centre sectors
  • Experience working with consultants, end users, building owners, developers, contractors, and operators throughout the project lifecycle
  • Proven track record in end-user specification sales and influencing design decisions
  • Experience positioning complex mechanical and digital solutions as the Basis of Design within major projects
  • Familiarity with Asset Management Systems, maintenance methodologies, and performance-focused building operations
  • Ability to lead and collaborate within cross-functional teams
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the region approximately 50–60% of the time
  • Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems, pumps, chilled water, heating water, heat transfer, hydronic systems, energy-efficient HVAC solutions, district energy networks, and critical cooling infrastructure
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, layouts, specifications, and electrical/hydraulic schematics
  • Experience securing product specifications during early design stages (RIBA Stages 1–4)
  • Highly proficient use of CRM platforms for pipelines, forecasts, activity analysis, and reporting
  • Experience using technical sales tools, digital platforms, and structured processes
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and technical training skills
  • Ability to deliver CPDs, technical workshops, solution demonstrations, and strategic customer engagement programmes
  • Ability to translate customer operational, energy, sustainability, resilience, and performance requirements into engineered solutions
  • Advanced analytical and data-driven approach to sales performance, market trends, competitive dynamics, and specification opportunities
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulatory requirements, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction initiatives
  • Strong relationship-building, influencing, commercial awareness, pipeline management, forecasting, opportunity qualification, reporting, problem-solving, organisation, planning, adaptability, and customer-focus skills
