About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead preparation and/or detailed review of federal, multi-state, and local corporate income and franchise tax returns, extensions, and quarterly estimated tax payments
  • Own quarterly and year-end ASC 740 income tax provision calculations, effective tax rate analysis, deferred tax asset/liability reconciliations, and financial statement tax footnote disclosures
  • Manage general ledger tax account reconciliations, roll-forwards, internal accounting controls, and financial reporting alignment
  • Partner with internal teams and external tax and audit advisors on tax planning, compliance workflows, and business transaction structures
  • Coordinate indirect tax functions across jurisdictions, including sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts, and commercial activity taxes
  • Monitor federal, state, and local legislative developments and advise leadership on corporate tax liabilities
  • Serve as primary liaison during federal, state, and local audits; gather documentation, prepare IDR responses, and resolve tax notices
  • Drive process automation and data integrity initiatives using tax technology, ERP systems, spreadsheet modeling, automation, and AI tools
  • Collaborate across Accounting, Legal, Treasury, and Executive leadership
  • Operate as an individual contributor with potential future growth into a supervisory role

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • 2–6 years of progressive corporate tax experience in a mature corporate tax department, public accounting, or a high-growth corporate environment
  • CPA license or active candidacy preferred
  • In-depth understanding of U.S. federal and multi-state corporate tax compliance
  • Knowledge of ASC 740 tax accounting standards
  • Knowledge of state apportionment
  • Willingness to develop and scale an evolving corporate tax function
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or operationally complex, multi-entity industries is a strong plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling, nested lookups, and pivot tables
  • Experience with enterprise ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, or Workday is a strong plus
  • Experience with tax compliance/provision platforms such as ONESOURCE or Corptax is a strong plus
  • Exceptional organizational, project management, analytical problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly to non-tax stakeholders and build cross-functional relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth, flexible environment
