About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage all activities of the engineering department
- Direct department activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures
- Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects
- Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products
- Forecast department operating costs and direct preparation of budget requests
- Direct personnel activities including recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments
- Manage professional employees and/or supervisors or large, complex technical, business support, or production operations teams
- Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
- Provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and/or customers
- Exercise full management authority over personnel actions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience
- 4 year degree
- Experience managing professional employees and/or supervisors or large, complex technical, business support, or production operations teams
- Accountability for team performance and results within own discipline or function
- Ability to adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
- Ability to make decisions guided by policies, procedures, and business plan
- Ability to provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and/or customers
- Accountability for the budget, performance, and results of a medium-sized team or multiple small teams
- Full management authority, including performance reviews, pay decisions, recruitment, discipline, termination, and other personnel actions
- Knowledge of related disciplines to address issues with impact beyond own team
