About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support Ashby's next phase of growth as its first dedicated HR presence in EMEA
- Serve as the go-to People partner for EMEA leaders and employees
- Provide local expertise on UK employment law, benefits, employee relations, and entity compliance
- Work closely with US-based HR Business Partners supporting teams in the region
- Translate business objectives into a regional people strategy
- Advise leaders and collaborate with the wider People team
- Ensure People processes and procedures run smoothly
- Balance strategic projects with administrative tasks and provide support wherever needed
- Build and maintain strong relationships with leaders and employees
- Assess team, manager, and company needs; make recommendations and implement solutions
- Support compensation, benefits, performance management, and compliance initiatives
- Help scale People Operations as Ashby expands its EMEA footprint
- Coach managers through performance conversations
- Build and evolve performance management practices
- Build and scale internal management training programs
- Facilitate training for employees at all levels
- Guide leaders through sensitive employee situations
- Mediate and investigate escalated employee relations issues
- Partner with legal counsel to mitigate employment and regulatory risk
- Participate in a thorough interview process including recruiter screen, People Ops interview, take-home assignment, People Leader interview, and virtual onsite
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experienced, UK-based HR Business Partner
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of UK employment law and practice, including contracts, benefits and pensions, leave, performance and separation processes, and workplace requirements
- Experience partnering with external counsel and advisors on employment matters
- Ability to build strong relationships with leaders and act as a strategic HR partner
- Broad People Operations and HR knowledge, including compensation, benefits, performance management, and compliance
- Experience supporting employees across multiple EMEA countries
- Understanding of working through an entity versus an EOR
- Ability to translate business objectives into actionable people strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to present and facilitate discussions clearly and confidently
- Experience using compensation market data to develop and maintain competitive, equitable compensation practices across EMEA and other international regions
- Deep experience building and evolving performance management practices
- Experience coaching managers through difficult performance conversations
- Experience building and scaling internal training programs for management teams
- Experience facilitating training topics for all employee levels
- Experience handling sensitive employee relations situations, mediating, and investigating escalated issues
- Knowledge of legal requirements related to employment and regulatory compliance
- Approximately 8 years of experience in HR or People Operations, ideally in a high-growth, scaling company
- UK-based HR generalist with strong expertise in UK employment law, benefits, and employee relations
- Experience supporting a globally distributed, asynchronous workforce across multiple EMEA countries
- Strengths in coaching, facilitation, and policy development
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
- Experience using HRIS, compensation tools, and other HR systems
- Advanced degree in HR, business, or organizational development (bonus points, not required)
- CIPD qualification Level 5 or 7 or equivalent HR certification (bonus points, not required)
