About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead managers responsible for clinic operations, client experience, nursing/medical support, and veterinary medicine
  • Oversee daily clinic operations, workflows, staffing, high-volume surgery, and appointments
  • Build a culture of kindness, respect, belonging, high performance, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with Regional Management, Regional Medical, and Nursing Directors to provide coordinated clinic leadership
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, supervise, and evaluate staff
  • Develop future leaders through career conversations and professional development opportunities
  • Communicate department strategy and operational decisions to clinic teams
  • Maintain a visible floor presence to support staff, adjust operations and staffing, and gather feedback
  • Deliver superior client experience and patient care while meeting clinic impact and productivity goals
  • Create and execute operational plans and solve root causes of problems
  • Ensure OSHA, ASPCA safety, Fear Free®, and animal-handling protocols are followed
  • Monitor weather and emergency events and execute safety plans
  • Oversee financial and administrative operations including cash, expenses, payroll, data integrity, and efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with time and attendance guidelines and California labor laws
  • Collaborate with internal ASPCA partners and inter-agency animal welfare partners
  • Supervise security and custodial contractors and coordinate facilities repairs and maintenance
  • Represent ASPCA and Community Medicine work through facility tours, media appearances, and donor events

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of combined professional work experience in public-facing services industries required
  • Minimum of 5 years managing direct reports required
  • Minimum of 3 years managing in a veterinary clinic environment strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years managing managers/supervisors strongly preferred
  • Budgeting and managing operating expenses experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
  • Proven history of building and maintaining positive and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to respond to shifting priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, electronic medical records systems, online calendars, and email
  • Experience leading and coaching people managers
  • Ability to work with behaviorally and/or medically compromised animals and support humane euthanasia situations
  • Fear Free® Shelter certification required within 60 days of hire
  • Ability to stand for 8 or more hours, walk stairs, work outdoors in inclement weather, lift and carry 40-plus pounds with assistance, and handle animals
  • Ability to exemplify ASPCA core values and behavioral competencies
  • Valid driver’s license upon hire, safe motor vehicle history, and Department of Transportation Medical Exam required
  • Willingness and comfort learning to drive Mobile Clinics up to 37 feet long through city street traffic; training provided
  • English required; fluency in Spanish or another language is a plus
