About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage and schedule engineering teams across the U.S. and Romania
- Align and harmonize product development across regions
- Oversee the full design and development lifecycle of proprietary locks and components
- Lead, hire, train, mentor, and prioritize engineers and designers within cross-functional project teams
- Deliver innovative new products, enhancements, VAVE initiatives, and cost savings
- Coach staff for optimal performance and career growth
- Conduct formal and informal performance reviews
- Ensure projects meet department goals, budgets, and cost estimates
- Follow the ASSA ABLOY NPD process and adhere to quality standards
- Conduct rigorous design reviews and approvals
- Promote best practices including FMEA, DFMA, and risk analysis
- Serve as liaison between engineering, production, and suppliers
- Manage internal quality control and evaluate work quality
- Follow up on production and supply activities in both regions
- Maintain external supplier relationships
- Collaborate with peers, negotiate and resolve issues
- Implement strategies to achieve objectives and escalate matters appropriately
- Travel required: 0%-10%
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study
- 4 years of managerial experience involving architectural hardware, mechanical and electromechanical locking devices and hardware
- 4 years of experience with firmware development and electro-mechanical product development
- 4 years of experience with the E1 development tool set, including Form Design Aid, Report Design Aid, Event Rules, Data Structures, Named Event Rules, Processing Options, Table Event Rules, Triggers, Business Functions, Debug tools, and C Programming
- 4 years of experience developing market-relevant products, providing leadership, optimizing production for cost efficiency, and fostering professional growth
- 4 years of experience designing and developing mechanical systems using FMEA, HALT, GD&T, DFM&A, DVP&R, Altium, PCAD, SolidWorks 3D, MS Project, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or root cause analysis
- 4 years of experience developing specialized tooling, including Stamping and Investment Casting dies
- 4 years of experience executing production via precision Machining and industrial 3D Printing
- 4 years of experience programming and troubleshooting automated systems using PLC and VHDL
- 4 years of experience communicating with and influencing stakeholders throughout the organization
- 4 years of experience working in a collaborative global organization specializing in door hardware
- 4 years of experience taking new products from inception through development and commercialization
