About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and direct installation of mechanical or electromechanical products, aftermarket products, and plant systems
  • Design, develop, support, and improve new and existing products, kits, and components
  • Fabricate and test prototypes, ensuring product integrity and technical accuracy
  • Release final products for manufacture and distribution
  • Manage engineering projects, changes, and development from start through completion
  • Prepare product or system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and experimental test programs
  • Direct and coordinate prototype manufacturing or system building
  • Analyze test data and reports against functional and performance specifications
  • Evaluate feasibility, costs, available space, time limitations, and technical and economic factors
  • Conduct business case analysis and planning for product commercialization when necessary
  • Lead and review Engineering Change Order projects
  • Publish technical bulletins and customer or supplier notifications
  • Review series production to ensure quality standards and cost targets
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software
  • Create and update bills of materials using CAD and ERP systems
  • Provide design, prototype, and validation support for existing products and kits
  • Oversee installation and testing of field test units at customer sites or via live video conferencing
  • Investigate product returns, manufacturing issues, quality issues, and supplier quality issues
  • Initiate corrective actions and engineering changes
  • Explore secondary suppliers to reduce product costs and lead times
  • Assist customer service with aftermarket repair products and services
  • Create product manuals, specification sheets, layout drawings, and work instructions
  • Diagnose, repair, and install company products and related equipment
  • Visit suppliers to assess technology, product status, cost savings, capabilities, and root causes
  • Monitor technology markets, customer feedback, and benchmarking for new product opportunities
  • Train Technical Support staff and support complex product issues
  • Handle product revisions and customer-requested specials
  • Participate in Kaizen and VAVE events

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5–7 years of engineering experience, preferably in product design engineering within a manufacturing environment or with electromechanical products
  • Experience managing multiple simultaneous projects
  • Advanced/intermediate experience with industry drafting and CAD standards
  • Experience in product design, GD&T, CAD tools, FEA, and DFMEA
  • Experience with electrical circuits, hydraulic circuits, and welding standards is a plus
  • Significant hands-on product experience
  • Experience with steel and steel fabrication methods preferred
  • Ability to use spreadsheet, word processing, database, and automated systems
  • Advanced/intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills; Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint preferred
  • General understanding and experience using business ERP systems and software
  • Working knowledge and experience with 3D software such as Autodesk Inventor and Vault
  • Ability to lead engineering projects
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Advanced hands-on problem-solving and analysis skills
  • Ability to develop, coordinate, and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Excellent electrical and mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong oral and written technical communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting while multitasking
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, sewing, welding equipment and tooling, automation, robotics, or manufacturing processes
  • Working knowledge of material types, specifications, and characteristics used in access and warehouse products
  • Thorough understanding of company products, quality management systems, manufacturing processes, and company policies
  • Limited business travel availability
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license
  • Ability to work beyond 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays when required
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work around moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, electric shock risks, and other manufacturing hazards
