About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead Assurant's global trade compliance program
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve governance, policies, procedures, and internal controls for import, export, sanctions, and customs compliance
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Export Administration Regulations, OFAC sanctions, U.S. Customs regulations, international customs laws, and foreign trade regulations
  • Advise executive leadership and business stakeholders on global trade risks, opportunities, and value-creation strategies
  • Oversee customs compliance for mobile devices, service parts, accessories, and technology
  • Manage HTS classifications, country-of-origin determinations, customs valuation, duty assessment, customs brokers, and trade service providers
  • Oversee export classifications, restricted-party screening, sanctions compliance, export licensing, and government authorizations
  • Assess and manage risks involving restricted destinations, restricted parties, military end users, controlled technologies, software, and technical data
  • Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments, internal audits, compliance reviews, monitoring, investigations, corrective actions, and remediation
  • Lead government audits, inquiries, disclosures, and remediation activities
  • Establish compliance metrics, dashboards, executive reporting, and accurate recordkeeping
  • Develop and deliver trade compliance training and awareness programs
  • Partner with and align global trade compliance strategies with the Director, Global Supply Chain Compliance
  • Supervise 1–2 direct reports, including a Compliance Analyst
  • Sign off on responsible expenses and provide input on the annual budget

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in global trade compliance
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience
  • Experience supporting multinational import/export operations
  • Experience managing customs and export compliance programs
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in mobile or technology industries helpful
  • Ability to use AI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT helpful
  • Supply chain and vendor risk management experience helpful
  • Knowledge of EAR, OFAC sanctions compliance, customs valuation, HTS classification, country-of-origin analysis, free trade agreements, duty drawback, foreign trade zones, reverse logistics operations, and mobile device repair/refurbishment supply chains
  • Demonstrated project management, analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and data analysis skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with several simultaneous deliverables
  • Employment contingent upon completion of a required identity verification process
  • Must be able to work with business and regional leadership teams around the world
