About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide proactive and reactive coaching and consultative human resources advice and services to Assurant employees from intake through resolution
  • Counsel managers and employees on performance development and performance improvement situations
  • Build and maintain working relationships with managers and People Business Partners
  • Provide hiring and staffing assistance, including interviewing, assessment, selection, compensation management, and job-description development
  • Support employee-engagement efforts, including action planning, team meetings, and follow-up
  • Provide performance coaching and participate in employee-manager meetings
  • Advise managers on policy interpretation, judgment, and discretion
  • Provide manager education and training on FMLA, union avoidance, wage and hour, accommodations, and related topics
  • Consult with managers and leaders during voluntary and involuntary terminations and reductions in force
  • Facilitate end-to-end reduction-in-force processes
  • Conduct routine inquiries, research, and investigations
  • Participate in projects identified by People Organization leadership
  • Document and manage cases using NeoCase/ERIN
  • Use Workday, Peakon, ERIN, and other tools to analyze client-group data and drive performance
  • Recommend improvements to Knowledgebase content and analytics
  • Coordinate with the People Experience Center to ensure escalated concerns are handled promptly, consistently, accurately, and appropriately documented

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area with a minimum of 1 year of experience in an HR professional role, or a minimum of 4 years’ experience in an HR professional role or managing people
  • Experience coaching and advising all levels of employees in performance, organizational change, employee engagement, and working relationships
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment law, including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, EEO, and other applicable employment-related laws
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills desired
  • Experience handling employee-related investigations and writing report summaries
  • Minimum of 1 year of HR support for a workforce of at least 250 employees
  • Certification as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP preferred
