About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide leadership and active management of priority and complex Oncology R&D alliances
  • Contribute to AstraZeneca strategy in the area of alliances
  • Lead in-bound and out-bound asset transitions with cross-functional Global Project Teams
  • Manage ongoing business relationships with alliance partners
  • Plan and manage alliance operations, governance committees, communications, coordination, partner concerns, business problems, and ongoing agreements
  • Serve as the single point of contact for partners and pathway for business/contractual issue resolution
  • Track, monitor, and communicate contract achievements, obligations, financial payments, and milestones
  • Review and approve material financial payments and route requests through Finance
  • Work with Legal, internal partners, and alliance partners on contract renewals and amendments
  • Review collaboration agreements and develop plans to clarify or amend them
  • Evaluate and resolve business and contractual issues while preserving collaboration value
  • Assess partnership health, performance risks, and value propositions; provide recommendations to Senior Management
  • Help drive alliance management strategy and develop organizational capabilities
  • Develop internal alliance management tools, systems, processes, and standard methodologies
  • Onboard and train new Alliance Managers
  • Enter key contract information into departmental systems and databases
  • Develop business relationships with existing and potential alliance partners
  • Develop Transition Services Agreements and schedules for licensing deals
  • Set measurable performance objectives and align alliance goals among collaborators
  • Build relationships with internal and external project stakeholders
  • Prepare collaboration launches and initial joint project team meetings
  • Educate team members on contract terms, obligations, achievements, and responsibilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in life sciences field
  • 10+ years' relevant pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience
  • At least 5 or more years' work experience in legal, finance, contract development & administration, business development, licensing, strategic planning, research, development, commercial, or manufacturing
  • Deep knowledge of the drug development process relevant to pharmaceutical/biotech organizations
  • Ability to translate complex contract terms and conditions into strategic and operational elements
  • Ability to develop transition plans for in-bound and out-bound licensing deals and lead R&D asset/program transitions
  • Ability to manage and resolve issues, risks, and potential conflicts internally and externally
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding professional/work-related objectives, goals and targets
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capacity to work cross-functionally and influence people without direct authority
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including internationally if required
  • MBA, other graduate-level degree, CA-AM certification, or CSAP certification is a plus/desired
