About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead ongoing development of strategy for infectious disease assets from early/late development through commercialisation and lifecycle management
  • Provide strategic leadership to the cross-functional Global Product Team
  • Lead cross-functional execution of approved development strategy
  • Lead global transformation programmes on time, on budget, and in compliance with quality standards
  • Shape high-level risk programme visions and translate business requirements into solutions
  • Manage programme budgets and supplier contracts
  • Ensure programme transitions to business-as-usual services
  • Define and drive strategic and scientific value creation across development, approval, growth, and maturity
  • Partner with commercial teams to increase product value
  • Develop and maintain product development plans, Target Product Profiles, and Target Product Claims
  • Execute governance-approved cases while meeting cost and quality standards
  • Manage risks, opportunities, and issues
  • Accelerate development and maximise value for patients
  • Collaborate with external authorities and establish effective networks
  • Deliver product information for internal and external portfolio reporting
  • Partner with Investor Relations on external messages for the analyst community
  • Build and lead successful cross-functional global teams
  • Establish and drive the Global Product Team for timely decision-making and delivery
  • Develop cross-functional talent for global roles
  • Ensure governance and compliance while protecting company rights, data, and intellectual property
  • Develop and execute publication and publicity strategies
  • Approve product information including publications, regulatory documents, and clinical trial registers
  • Handle and protect product intellectual property with IP and legal authorities
  • Drive and support partnerships and alliance management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • MD, PhD, or PharmD in a related science-based field
  • 10+ years of clinical/academic experience
  • Broad experience in vaccine development and infectious disease expertise
  • Expertise and experience in areas of the drug development process, with regulatory and commercial insights
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language aligned with AstraZeneca business
  • Track record delivering high-risk programmes/projects and making decisions
  • Strong skills and experience handling and controlling large budgets
  • Ability to convince and lead negotiations
  • Ability to translate scientific concepts and relate them to the brand
  • Strong vision and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build and lead a group of motivated individuals
  • Ability to communicate and influence at high levels with internal and external partners
  • Ability to learn new information rapidly and effectively
  • MBA is desirable
  • Appreciation of political, economic, social, and technological challenges facing the Life Sciences industry
  • Experience in more than one business area
  • Cross-functional team leadership experience
