About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report to the Vice President Head of Business Development in Oncology R&D
- Own accountability for global partnerships and Oncology R&D acquisitions/integrations
- Define and drive AstraZeneca’s alliance strategy in collaboration with the global Alliance Management community and Business Development leadership
- Lead the company’s most strategically significant alliances and integrations, including complex negotiations and organisational change
- Represent AstraZeneca at senior levels with partner companies
- Champion the strategic health and performance of the Oncology alliance portfolio
- Identify risks and opportunities, monitor objectives, milestones, and value-creation targets, and drive course correction
- Provide senior leadership with actionable portfolio insight and recommendations
- Lead and develop the Alliance Management team, including talent development, succession, and development plans
- Serve as expert authority on alliance governance and conflict resolution
- Establish global Alliance Management standards, governance frameworks, tools, processes, and partner feedback practices
- Partner with Business Units and integration teams to ensure seamless, value-preserving integration of new alliances and acquisitions
- Identify cross-company opportunities and embed best practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- BA/BS and 10+ years’ relevant experience in the pharmaceuticals/biotech industry, or MBA or PhD/MD with broad exposure across multiple business functions
- Experience managing teams through direct-line reporting and cross-functional/matrixed structures
- Executive-level relationship building and stakeholder influencing skills
- Ability to make sound decisions amid ambiguity and act decisively in the organisation’s best interests
- Ability to operate flexibly across different business operating models
- Proven track record managing a broad portfolio of strategic alliances across a large enterprise
- Significant experience with legal, tax, IP, HR, and contracts as they relate to business development deals
- Successful change management for significant organisational change or company integrations
- Excellent communication skills and experience interacting across disciplines and with third parties, including C-suite and senior representatives of peer companies
- Experience implementing partnership concepts and governance models for alliances
- Significant experience with deal processes, including contract architecture and scientific, tax, legal, IP, and HR considerations
- First-class collaborative and networking skills with a strong professional industry network
- Recognised leader in the Alliance Management profession
- CSAP or CA-AM certification desirable
