About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate the territory to profile and identify HCPs and important centers of excellence
  • Develop, evaluate, and refine HCP engagement plans aligned with medical strategic goals
  • Communicate relevant scientific and medical information about company products and disease states
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with HCPs and KOLs
  • Gather and disseminate HCP insights internally to inform medical strategy
  • Maintain current scientific knowledge within assigned products and therapeutic area
  • Support scientific exchange with external stakeholders
  • Provide scientific information to internal teams and functions
  • Apply understanding of real-world evidence and HEOR
  • Understand clinical study design and protocols
  • Provide focused and balanced clinical and scientific information
  • Develop expertise in applicable research outcomes for discussions with HCPs
  • Support externally sponsored research and clinical trials as appropriate
  • Develop knowledge of the US healthcare system, rare disease ecosystem, managed markets, and information flows in managed care and government organizations
  • Travel within the region 3–4 days per week with 1–2 office days per week
  • Attend medical, team, and other group meetings, including possible weekends
  • Conduct activities according to Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease policies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2+ years of direct patient care experience
  • Clinical experience in a relevant therapeutic area OR track record of success as an MSL
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong personal initiative
  • Ability to function as part of a cross-functional team
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to work independently
  • Leadership skills and high-level job competencies
  • Ability to travel minimum approximately 70% of the time
  • Required to live within the territory
  • Ability to travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane
  • Ability to work comfortably in a clinical setting
  • Ability to use a computer and communicate via phone, video, and electronic messaging
  • Ability to problem solve and engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • Ability to travel regularly within the territory, including frequent overnight and weekend travel
