About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Work with heavy-duty power equipment and hand tools in construction and repair of outside plant cable facilities, conduit, and pole lines
- Load tools and materials into assigned company vehicle and drive or ride to work locations
- Receive verbal and written work orders and instructions from supervisor
- Review complex schematic drawings to determine work methods and task sequence
- Perform construction operations involving heavy physical labor and lifting
- Follow standards and practices while meeting service deadlines
- Perform housekeeping at assigned company vehicles and work locations
- Communicate and coordinate with other work groups to test work in progress or completed work
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned company tools, equipment, and motor vehicle
- Manually dig poles and/or holes and perform other repetitive tasks
- Respond to customer inquiries during field contacts
- Use hand tools to connect wires to terminals and attach or detach hardware to cables
- Use testing equipment to check for gas in manholes and clean water and debris from manholes
- Load, unload, move, and rearrange heavy tools, equipment, and cable
- Act as the Company's and customer's advocate
- Perform daily time reporting tasks
- May climb non-stepped poles using climbers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Will be required to obtain Class A Driver's License once on the job
- Will be required to have their California Class A Driver's License within the first six months after their hire date
- Must pass a Federal DOT Medical Examination
- Required to participate in federally mandated drug and alcohol testing programs when applicable
- Ability to operate heavy-duty power equipment, hand tools, company vehicles with manual gearshift/transmission, and potentially vehicles with three or more axles or tow vehicles of 6,000 pounds or more
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor, lifting, repetitive digging, and loading/unloading heavy tools, equipment, and cable
- Ability to review and analyze complex schematic drawings
- Ability to work with color-coded wires
- Ability to use testing equipment to check for gas in manholes and clean water and debris from manholes
- Must meet specific quality, production, and safety standards
- May be required to climb non-stepped poles using climbers
- Ability to perform daily time reporting tasks
- Work authorization and hiring subject to applicable background-check and fair-chance requirements
