Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide consistent, respectful and professional internal/external customer care
  • Maintain open communication to ensure high customer satisfaction
  • Install, repair and maintain outside plant facilities
  • Load necessary tools and heavy equipment onto trucks or trailers
  • Receive work assignments and instructions from a supervisor or computer access terminal
  • Operate power equipment and hydraulic aerial lifts
  • Perform construction work including digging holes, placing poles, and placing cable, air pipe and inner duct
  • Unreel, pull and string wire strand and cable
  • Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach hardware
  • Splice and test PIC, non-pressurized, coaxial and fiber optic cables
  • Test for toxic and explosive gas in manholes and remove water or debris
  • Dismantle, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable, equipment and hardware
  • Repair, rearrange, route and maintain cable plant, fiber optic plant and channel cards
  • Turn up, troubleshoot and maintain digital carrier equipment channel cards and light wave and metallic terminals
  • Use electrical instruments and test equipment to isolate conductor faults and identify defective fibers, drops and carrier equipment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Ability to work with heavy duty power equipment and small tools
  • Ability to load tools and heavy equipment onto trucks or trailers
  • Ability to operate compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted on trucks
  • Ability to perform construction work, including digging holes, placing poles, and placing cable, air pipe and inner duct
  • Ability to determine differences between wire and cable colors
  • Ability to splice and test PIC, non-pressurized, coaxial and fiber optic cables
  • Ability to use test equipment, electrical instruments, cable locators, resistance fault locators, open fault locators, measuring test sets and signal generators
  • Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather
  • Ability to climb poles and ladders and enter tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces and manholes
  • Ability to safely utilize equipment according to manufacturer specifications and weight limitations
  • Ability to lift and move loads up to 120 pounds
  • Ability to review and interpret work orders, work prints, diagrams, specifications and Company practices
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures
