About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Initializes and maintains open communication to ensure high customer satisfaction
- Installs, repairs and maintains outside plant facilities
- Loads necessary tools and heavy equipment onto trucks or trailers
- Receives work assignments and instructions from a supervisor or computer access terminal
- Operates power equipment and hydraulic aerial lifts
- Performs construction work including digging holes, placing poles, cable, air pipe and inner duct
- Unreels, pulls and strings wire strand and cable
- Connects wires and cables to terminals and attaches or detaches hardware
- Splices and tests PIC, non-pressurized, coaxial and fiber optic cables
- Tests manholes for toxic and explosive gas and removes water and debris
- Dismantles, moves or removes aerial, underground or building wire, cable and associated equipment
- Performs tap-in energizing count and identifies conductors according to diagrams and specifications
- Closes splices with waterproof cases or thermally applied shrinkable sleeving
- Repairs, rearranges, routines and maintains cable and fiber optic plant and channel cards
- Turns up, routines, troubleshoots and maintains digital carrier equipment and terminals
- Uses electrical instruments to verify cable, conductor, wire and carrier equipment defects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Provides consistent, respectful and professional internal/external customer care
- Works with heavy duty power equipment and small tools
- Ability to operate compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic aerial lifts and ladders mounted on trucks
- Ability to determine differences between wire and cable colors
- Ability to splice and test PIC, non-pressurized, coaxial and fiber optic cables
- Ability to use cable locators, resistance fault locators, open fault locators, measuring test sets and signal generators
- Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather
- Ability to climb poles and ladders and enter tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces and manholes
- Ability to safely utilize equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and weight limitations
- Ability to lift and move loads up to 120 pounds
- Ability to review and interpret work orders, work prints and Company practices
- Ability to follow established safety procedures
