About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and maintain a self-service data trust platform enabling business users to validate, govern and work with data without SQL
- Improve and optimize established solutions for a large enterprise customer base
- Own data quality and data processing components, including scalable backend systems, microservices, messaging systems and APIs
- Collaborate with the product manager to turn user and customer problems into pragmatic features
- Own features end-to-end from design through production deployment and operations
- Mentor teammates through code reviews and design conversations
- Participate in architectural decisions balancing innovation with simplicity
- Expose data quality and metadata capabilities to Ataccama AI Agent and customer agents through APIs and MCP
- Explore LLM applications that automate work currently performed by engineers and data stewards
- Use AI coding agents to design, write, test and review code and help improve team practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Fluent in Java and curious or experienced with Kotlin
- Deep backend experience with complex applications, data-intensive engines and platform-like architectures
- Problem-solving and maker mindset
- Experience or ability to research complex algorithms and data structures
- Ability to write and understand complex SQL queries
- Comfortable working with relational databases at scale
- Experience building and operating distributed, scalable PaaS systems
- Knowledge of Kubernetes or willingness to learn it
- Skilled in using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex in daily development
- Curiosity about LLMs, agents and MCP; hands-on experience is a plus, not a must
- Customer-oriented ownership of a whole competency
- Clean, well-designed, documented and testable code
- Interest in collaborative engineering culture, mentorship, feedback and shared ownership
- Bonus knowledge or interest in problem solving, complex algorithms, software architecture, databases, cloud operations, application security/identity management, or LLM-powered features
