About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate suspected internal and external fraud, financial crimes, and potentially illegal activity
  • Review fraud alerts, cases, referrals, and investigative leads to determine disposition and identify suspicious activity
  • Document findings, maintain case records, and preserve evidence in accordance with requirements
  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate information from multiple sources
  • Coordinate information gathering and reporting with law enforcement, regulatory authorities, and other authorized parties
  • Serve as a point of contact for internal business units regarding fraud investigations and financial crime concerns
  • Conduct customer outreach when necessary
  • Prepare investigative reports, case summaries, and supporting documentation
  • Identify, analyze, and communicate fraud trends, threats, and typologies
  • Recommend improvements to fraud prevention, risk mitigation, processes, and procedures
  • Present evidence and investigative findings in legal proceedings or court as required
  • Stay current on fraud, AML, BSA, and financial crime regulations, trends, and investigative techniques
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to less experienced team members
  • Assist with daily operational activities and perform other duties as assigned
  • Report to the Fraud Investigations Manager; no direct reports

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically requires 7+ years relevant experience
  • May require vocational or technical training
  • Advanced knowledge of fraud investigations, financial crimes risk management, investigative methodologies, and case management practices
  • Working knowledge of banking laws, regulations, AML, BSA, and financial crimes compliance
  • Ability to investigate complex and non-routine matters with sound judgment and independent decision-making
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to identify trends, patterns, and suspicious activity
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex fraud and financial crime issues clearly and effectively
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proficiency in preparing investigative documentation, reports, and case files
  • Knowledge of financial institution operations, products, services, systems, and fraud risk controls
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and manage multiple investigations simultaneously
  • Must maintain confidentiality and data integrity
