About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the senior-most HR position for a branch or multiple high-sales-volume branches within a region
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Operations on strategic and technical HR matters
  • Manage the overall branch/cluster HR function
  • Communicate HR trends, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to the Regional HR Director
  • Provide advice on engagement, retention, training and discipline issues
  • Establish a visible and positive HR presence among associates and operations management
  • Direct assigned HR staff and resolve associate relations issues
  • Establish and maintain positive labor relations
  • Participate in arbitrations, grievances and contract negotiations
  • Ensure operations managers understand their collective bargaining agreement
  • Partner with Loss Prevention, Accounting, Supply Chain and other departments
  • Direct the recruiting function lifecycle at assigned locations
  • Direct onboarding, orientation and training delivery
  • Communicate with peers and the Regional HR Director about HR challenges and location status
  • Maintain knowledge of current HR trends and technical, regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Conduct confidential HR investigations
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws, collective bargaining agreements and corporate HR policies
  • Administer company and local HR policies
  • Supervise, mentor and serve as a primary resource to onsite HR professionals

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated equivalent
  • Ability to analyze information to recommend resolutions to complex problems and strategic challenges
  • Technical HR knowledge associated with obtaining and maintaining a HRCI SPHR certification or equivalent
  • 7-10 years of experience in HR, including 3-5 years of HR management experience and supervision of other HR staff
  • Demonstrated competency in developing HR strategies and associate engagement
  • Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and policy documents, and converse comfortably with associates
  • Excellent problem-solving and writing skills
  • Ability to build collaborative partnerships and experience working with other departments
  • Strong working knowledge of employment-related local, state and federal regulations
  • Proficiency with HRIS and business software/systems
  • Expertise in preparing documents, spreadsheets and presentations
  • Flexibility and adaptability to manage multiple projects and remote direct reports while maintaining focus on critical HR processes
  • Ability to lead and be a member of a team
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
  • Ability to travel nationally, regionally and within the area up to 50% of the time
