About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and develop a sophisticated team of claims professionals handling and managing E&S Property Claims
  • Support the expansion of AXIS presence in the Property Specialty Market in North America
  • Directly report to the Head of North America Property & TPA/Programs Claims
  • Supervise and manage claims, including investigation, analysis, and evaluation of coverage, liability, and damages
  • Provide aggregate reporting for the North America Property Specialty Claims portfolio, including CAT reporting
  • Collaborate with the Global Markets Claims team on portfolio reporting
  • Collaborate with the Head of Specialty Complex Claims on coverage disputes, litigation, and arbitration
  • Evaluate when to request outside coverage counsel and escalate for approval
  • Formulate claims management strategies and manage outside defense counsel
  • Provide strategic guidance to claims teams throughout the life of claims
  • Manage coverage counsel and litigation costs and collaborate on cost management and the Financial Lines panel
  • Collaborate with general counsel and other disciplines and business units
  • Identify liability and coverage trends and formulate processes and strategies for affected claims
  • Support underwriting inquiries regarding policy construction and drafting, claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments
  • Coach, mentor, provide feedback to, and develop direct reports
  • Recruit, hire, retain talent, and develop succession plans
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Communicate extensively with executives, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, insureds, and auditors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7-10+ years of claims management experience in claims leadership for the specific lines of business
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and management skills
  • Public profile and reputation for leadership and technical excellence
  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all organizational levels, internally and externally
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex, disputed claims
  • Analytical and data proficiency to drive results, make decisions, and drive outcomes
  • Ability to balance immediate claim issues with broader portfolio and customer service impacts of coverage disputes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience handling claims involving a wide variety of loss scenarios, including CAT losses
  • Experience reporting and presenting claims matters to senior management
  • In-depth knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and negotiating skills
  • Law Degree and admission in good standing to one of the fifty state bars or educational equivalent is a plus
